Nearby on Your Phone

5:24 AM Edited by Blony

.
We’ve always liked the idea of showing you photos taken in a particular place; for example, here are some photos taken at or near the Flickr 5.25 party.

Today we’re bringing that ability to the smartphone mobile site. For those devices that support it (currently Android and the iPhone with the new 3.0 software), the Mobile Nearby page will figure out where you are in the world and show you photos that have been taken in the same area.

Use this to explore your neighborhood, or find the best places to photograph local landmarks from. Reload the page as you walk around a city, and see the things that have happened there in the past. You’ll see a place through the eyes of the flickrverse.

The best way to get started is to head over to m.flickr.com where you’ll see a new link — “Photos taken nearby.”

Watching Movies on Mobile Phones

9:30 AM Edited by Blony

.
The hottest aspect of the relationship between mobile phones and movies right now is the possibility to download and watch movies on many mobile phones. There have been several recent announcements in the industry which suggest that making movies available on phones is one of the next big trends from handset makers. Major announcements in this vein are coming from Sony Ericsson, Samsung and the iPhone.

Sony Ericsson recently generated a lot of media attention with an announcement about a new service called Play Now Arena Movies. This service will allow people with Sony Ericsson phones to download up to five dozen movies per year to be watched on their smartphones. The movies will have to be sideloaded to the phone (meaning that they’re downloaded to your PC before being moved to your mobile phone). The purpose of this is to avoid the varying data charges associated with downloading immediately to the device. At the same time that the company announced its new service, it also announced the release of three new entertainment-specific phones. Two of those phones (the Satio/Idou and the Aino) are compatible with the Play Now movie service. Additionally, Sony Ericsson plans for some of its phones to come preloaded with the Play Now Movie Service in order to make their handsets more attractive to consumers.

The announcement from Sony Ericsson comes just a couple of months after a similar announcement from Samsung. The company launched a Samsung Movies site in March of this year which offers movie downloads to all Samsung customers who have a phone that is capable of playing movies. They have deals with all of the major motion studios to make feature films available for sale or rent for those Samsung customers who want to watch mainstream movies on their mobile phones.

The Samsung store was immediately compared to the iTunes store. It is already possible to download movies to the iPhone from the online store. However, the iPhone may be taken to the next level when the new version of the phone is released this summer. Rumor has it that it will be capable of direct movie downloads which would allow users to bypass the process of using the iTunes store and syncing downloads with the device. This rumor is unconfirmed but it’s certainly true that people are increasingly interested in using their mobile devices to watch films.

How Safe Do You Think Mobile Shopping Is?

8:41 AM Edited by Blony

.
Mobile shopping is increasingly popular among certain segments of the population but there are still a large percentage of people who believe that mobile phone shopping isn’t safe. In fact, a significant percentage of the population believes that their credit card companies are more reliable than cell phone companies for online billing in spite of the fact that there are few problems reported with mobile shopping security so far.

A recent poll by Harris Interactive reveals that over half of the people who have both cell phone bills and credit card bills believe that their credit card bills are the more accurate of the two. However, with mobile phone security steadily improving, a growing portion of the population does believe that mobile phone shopping might be safe. About one quarter of those surveyed believe that it’s safe already and nearly half believe that it’s at least somewhat safe to make purchases with your mobile phone.

Mobile security is only one issue affecting the interest in mobile shopping. Some people just aren’t into the idea even if it is proven to be safe. As with most trends in new technology, it is the younger generations that are most comfortable with using mobile phones for shopping. Sixty percent of people aged 18-34 are interested in mobile shopping; that number is nearly slashed in half for people over the age of 55. Interestingly, men are significantly more comfortable with the idea of mobile shopping than their female counterparts are.

As these people do start getting more and more comfortable with the idea of mobile shopping, there are key areas of mobile commerce that seem specifically susceptible to growth. Entertainment and food top the list of ideal mobile purchases. Travel-related purchases including hotel rooms and flights are also areas of potential mobile commerce growth.

Mobile banking users to number 53 million by 2013

12:09 AM Edited by Blony

.
Mobile banking adoption will increase from 10 million active users in 2009 to more than 53 million active users in 2013--a compound annual growth rate of 51.8 percent--according to a new forecast issued by consulting and advisory services firm TowerGroup, crediting the growth to consumer desire for real-time access to aggregated financial information, especially in the face of continued economic concerns. TowerGroup anticipates that over time, mobile banking will evolve beyond basic banking functionality like balance inquiries, location finders and intrabank fund transfers to more sophisticated applications that more fully leverage the scope of the mobile platform, and recommends that banks consider the following best practices:

* Leverage other delivery channels to create synergies with the self-service model and utilize the full spectrum of device capabilities. * Develop smart integration models that offer new segmentation and personalization capabilities for true one-to-one customer outreach based on customer preferences. * Look beyond the existing customer base to capture new customers--e.g., as current unbanked customers with no bank accounts, ethnic markets and new generational users (including the Generation Y segment, which desires self-service, innovation and paperless electronic transactions with no need for human interaction). * Forge tight relationships between mobile banking and ATM vendors to build stronger ties with customers that currently do not have a relationship with a bank.

Back-covers of Mobiles: best and worst for wear ‘n’ tear…

1:04 AM Edited by Blony

. BEST: contender: BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Bold - the faux-leather effect back case actually betrays what is a very nice idea for masking the effects of scratches etc

BEST: contender: Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N95-8GB - a thin covering of rubber-like material meant that the back-case didn’t easily scratch

WORST: contender: Nokia 8800 Scirocco - the removable back case of various Sciroccos that I saw in use scratched just by putting them in and out of the ‘protective leather sheath case’ that came with the device - to be accurate, the paint job on the devices wore away very easily….

WORST: contender: iPhone 3G - a very shiny case, that is contoured so that only the middle will sit on a flat surface, means many shallow scratches occur quickly. The bezel on my device also scratched very easily

Conclusion: is it too much to expect your device to remain reasonably scratch-free if you don’t have it in a special case? Well maybe, depends on how whether any engineering thought has gone in to the case design, as regards its wear - certainly it seems to vary between devices.

HP gets into full mobile social networks wisely

11:58 PM Edited by Blony

. HP, through its HP Labs, has just announced it's working on Friendlee, a mobile social network that combines social life and activity that we carry from the mobile. This puts it squarely in the business of mobile social networking and business-oriented world of business.

During the WES 2009, HP announced its new titles of mobile application Friendlee, a new mobile social network based on geolocation and interacting between the address book of close friends and colleagues, text messages and emails the user, and combined with the geographical position via GPS, users. And all this data across social networks of others, to give them relevance.

Have such interaction among the users would know that even if the contact is on the phone, or answering an email, even if the user had not changed their status in the social network, because the software detects the actions that the user is doing in the mobile . The contact list is always in motion, but the contacts are not showing their actions. These contact lists are sorted by the strength of the connections, which is determined by the frequency and duration of interactions, this is based on the relevance of the contacts.

In the paper makes it clear that HP is operating base to the user's own contacts in your address book, social networks and Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn with geolocation as we see in Google or Latitude Loopt, a armando sub-personal social-network that adds to the calls and messages from users, and their frequency, and the actions that these users are on the phone in real time.

If you notice the difference, which is proposed Friendlee real-time interaction with our social network, according to the use we give to the team and interaction with contacts. Fabulous and complicated at the same time!

Google could do something similar if you wanted, because we have too much control of the user with all of its mobile applications, which together with the new Google Voice, could be something similar.

Friendlee for now is available as a prototype of HP as a mobile application based on Web 2.0, but say they are working on applications for multiple operating systems, Android and Windows Mobile, but the presentation of the WES is shown in a Blackberry Storm.

For the future is looking to add something like artificial intelligence to our social network .... increible!

Google Latitude now in your blog or in your Google Talk

6:14 AM Edited by Blony

. I personally do not allow the world to see where I am, but the reception seems to be Google's new Latitude option to create a badge for your blog in your location may prove attractive to some.

You can also integrate it into Google Talk and show the world but where you are on your "status", to me personally I think extreme means to share the exact address (in addition to that, unless you have a data plan with a flat fee you will want to kill you by silly) but you can always say "Honey .. I'm home ";)

Gmail Mobile for iPhone and Android with new features

5:06 AM Edited by Blony

.
Gmail Mobile for iPhone and Android seems to be the star in online application Google has included a feature that seems cool, do "Mute" or "Silence" a conversation so that I do not have to delete or file directly but you see when you're not on your phone.

This is ideal because there are threads or conversations that may become a huge return of mails that if you're constantly on the receiving cellphone becomes a nuisance with it ... just the "silence" and ready.

An important detail, he takes any functionality or delete mails from these talks! More details on the official Google Mobile blog

Nokia to provide maps Samsung

6:57 PM Edited by Blony

.
Finally, the provider of the maps and navigation data for the platform is Nokia Samsung GPS with your company Navteq, and the first team to have integrated platform maps Samsung i8910 is the HD in Europe during May.

Which are two trends, buy Navteq was not to operate only on Nokia phones but to extend it, Samsung is one of the most agnostic about platforms (with a little bit of everything) and if this deal shows we will work to see Nokia / Navteq also appear in other manufacturers;)

Only 9% of users take advantage of mobile banking

6:55 AM Edited by Blony

.
According to a report by Consumers & Convergence III "of the consultancy KPMG, only 9% of global consumer banking through mobile phones and this confirms the theory that said that fear and indifference can not take off the service mobile banking, despite well-supported initiatives for growth.

Despite these low numbers of mobile banking, more than half of respondents, 53%, is comfortable with the idea of using a mobile phone to perform banking transactions, but 59% are not willing to pay more for service, something to consider.

A very good initiative, which brings the mobile user to mobile banking, is the free application for iPhone MasterCard, MasterCard ATM Hunter, to find ATMs from the iPhone.

The first NETBOOK with Android would cost $ 250

7:12 AM Edited by Blony

.
Earlier this year, Mauro told us about the first tests with the Android operating system in netbooks like the Asus Eee PC. Recently we learned that HP was considering the possibility of their use in netbooks and now begin to arrive on that reliable hearsay may be the first to use Android NETBOOK officially.

In Computerworld echoed statements by Nixon Wu, one of the founders of the company that will manufacture, Guangzhou Skytone Transmission Technologies, which claimed that this NETBOOK with Android to be available within a period of three months under the name Alpha 680.

This notebook includes a 533 MHz ARM processor, cheaper and less power consumption that Intel Atom, and the operating system free from Google, allowing its price is lower than other netbooks like the Asus Eee PC One or the Acer Aspire. In fact, we speak about $ 250, possibly less, and the battery lasts about 12 hours.

The prototype of the Alpha 680 weighs 680 grams and measures curiously 21.59 cm long 15.24 cm wide and just over 3 cm thick. It has a 7-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and 128 MB DDR2 RAM (which could be expanded to 256 MB) and a 1 GB hard drive (expandable to 4 GB). The storage capacity could be expanded using the SD card slot or two USB ports.

Technical specifications are considerably lower than those we are seeing in the current netbooks, but perhaps his great autonomy and low price compensates for the difference in power. We'll see how that works once you are up for sale.

Google offers search for products from the mobile

5:47 AM Edited by Blony

. Since a few days ago that you can use the new Google tool to search for products from mobile phones, Mobile Product Search.

So you can find stores in the United States and United Kingdom, with their best price, all features, ratings and reviews of products that we find with Google search. Excellent service.

Unfortunately it is only for users with computers with iPhone OS and Android, so it gives you an extra service to less than 2% of the total mobile user base, ignoring users with Symbian S60, Windows Mobile and Blackberry, a 40% of mobile users globally.

Is not it absurd? Do you think that you? Should I start with more operating systems? Or an early release, although limited, right?

Mobiletinyurl. Shorten the URL for mobile devices!

8:20 AM Edited by Blony

.
Interestingly this Mobiletinyurl, a simple but very useful!

It is, as you probably guessed from the name, a service that lets you create, from any Internet address, a shortened version, faster to type. What is thus the difference that distinguishes this from many other services like its competitors? The fact that Mobile Tiny URL is created taking into account the fact that the URL will then typed on the numeric keypad of a mobile phone. Can also use the service from their applications and using the APIs and receive information on usage statistics of a given 'short cut' via email.

Sometimes things are simpler and more mundane ones that are most useful, eh? ;)
