LG enV Pro not canceled, just delayed?
11:48 PM Edited by Blony

A trusted source has told us today that the LG enV Pro -- the latest incarnation of LG's line of dual-screen clamshells for Verizon, and the first with Android -- isn't actually canceled as we'd heard before. It is, however, delayed, with the launch currently scheduled for "some time in January." The good news is that the phone will launch with Android 2.2 installed, leading us to wonder whether the delay was put in place to give LG the time it needs to toss Eclair and get the Froyo build ready... so if this Nexus S happens soon with Gingerbread, they'll only be 0.1 behind. Not bad, we suppose -- but we're still hoping the phone looks more awesome in person.

LG Optimus Quantum available from Bell
11:38 PM Edited by Blony

The wait continues for AT&T customers, but that doesn't mean LG's Windows Phone 7-based QWERTY slider -- the only one at launch -- isn't available anywhere. AT&T's LG Quantum is known as the longer, fancier "Optimus Quantum" north of the border, where interested parties will pay CAD $99.95 (about $100) to enjoy the phone on a three-year contract -- or, if your wallet runs a little deeper, CAD $449.95 ($448) contract-free. As a refresher, the Optimus Quantum features a 5 megapixel cam, 3.5-inch WVGA display, and 16GB on onboard storage -- decent specs, but then again, every WP7 device has decent specs. Decisions!

LG Optimus T coming to T-Mobile for $29, launches November 3rd
1:04 AM Edited by Blony

T-Mobile finally put a price tag and a release date on its upcoming LG Optimus T — the budget smartphone will be available on Wednesday, November 3rd, for $29.99 with a new 2-year contract. Featuring a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, a 3-megapixel camera and the Android 2.2 (FroYo) operating system, the Optimus T is a fairly solid buy for smartphone newcomers looking for a simple point of entry. Then again, third-party distributors such as Amazon.com typically offer a variety of more capable Android handsets for free, making the rationale behind a $30 Optimus T slightly less convincing. Those still interested, however, can hit the jump for T-Mobile’s full announcement.

6:58 PM Edited by Blony

Still on the lookout for an affordable QWERTY dumbphone? You might be in luck, as LG's just released this eye-catching Town C300 to cater to your texting and IM addiction on the cheap. Just like its predecessor, this new handset includes Facebook, Twitter, Windows Live Messenger, and push email integration, along with FM radio, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 2 megapixel camera from the hardware camp. The damage? Just a mere £69 ($108) from Orange, but don't tell your friends -- keep the extra booze money to yourself.

LG Vortex for Verizon in the wild?
6:55 PM Edited by Blony

It might be a little early to cue the "vortex of suck" jokes, but this spy shot definitely says it all: the phone -- claimed to be called Vortex -- is decidedly on the lower end of Verizon's Android spectrum. The Droid Guy, source of the photo, says that the specs include a 600MHz core, 3.2-inch display, FM radio, and Froyo; that basically matches up with the recently-announced Optimus One's spec sheet, and considering the similarity in industrial design, it's reasonable to follow the site's conclusion that this little more than a CDMA port of the device. To be fair, the Android handsets in Verizon's present-day lineup are definitely weighted toward the pricey side, so phones like this and the Motorola WX445 should help balance things out a smidge when (and if) they ultimately end up launching.

LG announces Android tablet, Optimus One and Optimus Chic (with Froyo)
1:22 AM Edited by Blony

LG’s Android-related goals for 2010 are pretty ambitious: the company wants to launch 20 Android smartphones by the end of the year. It already introduced a few of them, and today it announced two new ones: LG Optimus Chic and LG Optimus One.
Both new smartphones run Android 2.2 Froyo and will probably be available only in South Korea. Update: actually, the new Optimus devices will be launched worldwide.
The Optimus Chic is a handset targeted at young consumers, while the Optimus One is an entry-level device. The features of LG Optimus Chic and Optimus One have not been unveiled, but both phones can be seen below (the Chic is the first one):
LG has also announced that, like Samsung, it plans to introduce an Android tablet in the fourth quarter of this year, without providing additional details about this. The company further said it would soon update the LG Optimus Z (aka SU950 / KU9500) to Android 2.2.

LG debuts Optimus smartphone series, Froyo-powered 'One' and 'Chic' arriving first
8:05 PM Edited by Blony

While all of you Droid, Incredible and EVO 4G owners wait patiently for an official Froyo update to call your own, LG's wasting no time introducing its first phones based on the latest and greatest Android build. Over in the UK today, the company has decided to launch the Optimus Series, a family of smartphones that'll run "on a range of operating systems as well as Android." If all goes well, LG will introduce around ten new smart devices worldwide in the second half of this year under the Optimus label, though only two are being partially revealed for now. The Optimus One with Google and Optimus Chic will both ship with Android 2.2 onboard, with the latter being specifically aimed at fashionistas who just might appreciate the "sleek curves" that make themselves so apparent. Further details surrounding pricing, availability and specifications remain to be seen, but here's hoping this is just the beginning of the Froyo flood to come.

gets LG Pop, Fido goes green with Sony Ericsson Naite
2:26 AM Edited by Blony

Let's circle back and take a look at a couple of big handset launches in the Great White North this month, shall we? Rogers nabbed the LG Pop -- sans solar back -- for a mere CAD $19.99 (about $19) on three-year contract or CAD $174.99 ($166) commitment-free, living up to the phone's philosophy of taking full-touch awesomeness downmarket with a 3 megapixel cam and 3-inch WQVGA display. Next up, Rogers' value brand Fido added the Naite from Sony Ericsson -- the first GreenHeart-branded handset to land anywhere in North America -- for $25 on a two-year deal. The eco-focused candybar (which might tug on the heartstrings of ex-T610 owners) keeps it simple with a 2 megapixel camera, but still manages triband 3G and an integrated FM radio. Both are available now.

LG SV770 Waffle isn't as edible as it sounds
2:16 AM Edited by Blony

Throughout much of the world, 3G is a welcome change from the surly slow-speed bonds of older wireless techs, but in South Korea, there's still a huge contingent of subscribers stubbornly hanging onto their 2G service for a simple reason: upgrading requires a number change. Anyone can relate to why changing phone numbers sucks so badly, so LG's actually using the 2G nature of its SV770 Waffle as a selling point -- well, that, and the waffle-esque backing, of course. The trendy slider will be available shortly in three shades -- white, black, and champagne gold -- and feature Bluetooth, FM radio, and an emergency siren in case someone tries to enjoy your Waffle a little too much rather than getting his or her own. Look for it to hit SK Telecom in the next couple weeks; now if you'll excuse us, we could really use some breakfast.

LG GW990 will be one of the first MeeGo phones
12:00 AM Edited by Blony

Intel and Nokia certainly surprised a few of us yesterday when they decided to merge Moblin and Maemo into the new, more terribly-named MeeGo OS, but it looks like LG is ready to roll with it -- the Moorestown-powered LG GW990 we saw at CES will be one of the first MeeGo phones when it launches later this year. Of course, that doesn't mean much of anything beyond branding, since the GW990 uses a custom UI on top of the x86-based Moblin core and we doubt there's any of Maemo's ARM-based code involved there, but it's a definite sign of things to come. So, Nokia -- are we going to see a Moorestown N900, or what?

LG has now announced another new touchscreen phone – the LG Cookie Plus GS500
1:08 AM Edited by Blony

Presented as being “sociable, enjoyable and affordable,” the LG Cookie Plus is obviously based on the original Cookie phone (sold in more than 10 million units since 2008).
Unlike the old Cookie, the LG Cookie Plus GS500 features 3G connectivity. It also offers social networking connectivity (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr), an animated UI with widgets, a full touchscreen, FM tuner, 3MP camera, and Editable Screenshot MMS – a feature capable of capturing web images for editing and sending to other phones.
The LG Cookie Plus GS500 will be first available in France and Italy (starting early March), coming in various color versions. After that, the phone will be introduced in other 43 countries around the world. The handset’s price will probably be a low one, to match the price of the original Cookie.

LG Arena Max LU9400 possibly pictured, Snapdragon CPU apparently onboard
11:22 PM Edited by Blony

We first heard about the LG Arena Max LU9400 in November last year, when some info about it appeared at the Wi-Fi Alliance website. Sadly, there were no photos of the handset back then.
But today we’ve spotted a new LG touchscreen phone, and it seems to be the Arena Max.
According to the info found at Cetizen (and the rough automatic translation), the LG Arena Max has a 3.5 inch touchscreen display, Wi-Fi, GPS, 5MP camera and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor.
The first LG Arena phone (KM900) is 106mm long, so the new Arena Max could be about this big when compared to it (the Arena Max is on the right):
A live photo of the Arena Max is also available:

The Cyon logo seen on the phone suggests that it will be launched in Korea sometime soon.
We have no idea when exactly LG will announce the Arena Max, but Cetizen says the handset might be out in March. Let’s hope this is true.

LG commits to Android 1.6 -- not 2.0 -- for Rogers' Eve
7:23 PM Edited by Blony

We suppose we should be excited that Canada's version of the LG GW620 Eve is getting any major update at all, but still: what the heck? LG Canada has communicated via its official Twitter account this week that Rogers' version of the phone -- its second QWERTY-equipped Android set after the Dream -- would be getting an update to Android 1.6 (known to the bakers in the room as Donut, of course) this Spring. What's crazier, it apparently won't be an over-the-air boost since they're saying it'll be available from both LG's and Rogers' sites. That's not a huge deal, but seriously guys, why 1.6? If it were to drop today it'd feel old -- and by Spring, when HTC, Motorola, and likely Samsung all have 2.1 updates at the ready, this is just going to look a little silly, isn't it?

LG Rumor Touch launches for Sprint
11:54 PM Edited by Blony

LG and Sprint launched another set at CES yestoday, a follow up to the Rumor line, the LG Rumor Touch. This new iteration features little sprinkles of joy such as a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen, QWERTY landscape keyboard, GPS, 2 megapixel camera, and EV-DO Rev. 0. The app selection includes a suite of things you'd expect -- and maybe love -- featuring Sprint Navigation, Sprint TV, Music, Mobile Mail, Corporate Mail, threaded text messaging, and a pile of social apps. The LG Rumor Touch should hit Sprint brick and mortar shops sometime this quarter -- though, feel free to pre-order now -- but unfortunately, the price remains a mystery, for now.

Sprint intros stylish LG Lotus Elite, LG Rumor Touch
7:59 PM Edited by Blony

Sprint has just went official with two new LG phones: the LG Lotus Elite (aka LG Lotus 2) and the LG Rumor Touch. Both handsets are part of a new “Style” campaign launched by Sprint and LG in the US.
The first phone, LG Lotus Elite, is a square-ish clamshell with two 2.4 inch QVGA displays (one external, touch-enabled), 3G, a “a highly-customizable user interface”, full QWERTY keypad, GPS (with Sprint Navigation), shortcut keys for social networking, email and text, Bluetooth, Sprint Music Store, background music mode, Sprint TV, personal and corporate email, Wireless Backup, 2MP camera, and MicroSD card support.
The Lotus Elite will come in two color versions (red, starting January 10; and black, starting February 14) featuring an “amazing tattoo pattern”.
Sprint will sell the LG Lotus Elite soon, for $99.99 with a 2-yr contract agreement and after a $50 rebate.
The second new handset, LG Rumor Touch, takes the Rumor line-up to the next level by adding – you guessed it – a touchscreen display (3 inch, 240 x 400 pixels).

The Rumor Touch also features a 5-row QWERTY keyboard, 3G, 3.5mm headset jack, GPS, and a 2MP camera.
Sprint didn’t say how much the LG Rumor Touch costs, but the phone should be on sale starting this spring.

LG GD880 Mini and its chrome bezel spotted
11:07 PM Edited by Blony

We now know what's coming from LGs home entertainment offerings, but wondering what's next on the celly front? We've got a glimpse into at least one thing, with pictures hitting the web of the LG GD880, dubbed the Mini -- at least for now. It's rocking a 3.2-inch, 480 x 854 screen and a mere 100MB of storage, but microSD expansion should give you plenty of room for growth. WiFi is said to be on tap, as is a five megapixel camera, and an S-Class UI. Shocking? Hardly, but look at that bling!

LG GT950 emerge looks like an AT&T version of LG Arena
8:05 AM Edited by Blony

As you can see, LG GT950 looks pretty much like the LG KM900 Arena, except that the video call camera and the proximity sensors seem to have moved on the left side of the phone.
There’s not a lot of info available but the LG GT950 should run the S-Class user interface. We don't expect any major changes to the hardware, so the screen should be a 3” capacitive touchscreen with WVGA resolution.
Other goodies of the original LG Arena that the LG GT950 also has include the 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash and D1 video recording at 30fps, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi and GPS, DivX/XviD support and TV out as well as an FM radio and an FM transmitter. And 3G of course with 7.2Mbps HSDPA.
As the LG GT950 is not announced officially these specs are just speculation, but should be pretty close to the truth. There’s not even a hint of when to expect the announcement.

LG and Sprint are preparing something new for the exhibition CES 2010
5:43 AM Edited by Blony

There are more rumors that LG and Sprint are preparing something new for the exhibition CES 2010.
The alleged surprise may be the smartphone LG PRADA 3 – the first representative of the LG PRADA line based on the Android operating system. In addition, it will be the first phone under the brand LG PRADA, implementation of which is made through the cellular network operator. Until today the U.S. PRADA phones were sold through retailers, without a contract with a rather high price.
According to rumors, LG PRADA 3 is equipped with touch screen and QWERTY-keyboard. It is assumed that the smartphone will work in the CDMA networks. Also it is said that the first day of the exhibition LG and Sprint will hold a press conference with the participation of American supermodel Brooke Shields Brooke Shields.

LG goes nouveau nostalgic with first US Mobile DTV devices
3:51 AM Edited by Blony

LG just announced its first commercial products for the fledgling US Mobile DTV standard approved in October. First up is what appears to be a DTV-ified LG Lotus clamshell -- a phone first introduced in 2008 but now capable of extracting digital TV from the aether with an assist from that telescoping antenna. Also set for a CES launch is that DP570MH portable DVD player that lets viewers watch up to 4-hours of ATSC-approved Mobile DTV broadcasts before heading back for a charge. LG's also promising more ATSC Mobile DTV devices from Dell (laptops), Kenwood, and others including in-car receivers all using LG's LG2160A ATSC-M/H tuner chip. Still, mobile antennas and DVD players... how can something so new feel so retro?

3:47 AM Edited by Blony

AT&T’s LG eXpo has made a quick jump from launch announcement to price reduction. Originally debuting for $199 after a $100 mail in rebate and a two year contract, the eXpo is now available for the rock bottom price of $99 from Amazon with free activation. Throw in a $50 Amazon gift card and the LG eXpo will cost you a mere $49 with a two year contract. Better get while the getting is good, though, as both the $50 gift card and the free activation are limited time offers which end December 28th.
