Palm announces Q1 FY 2010 results, says goodbye to Windows Mobile

Palm has unveiled its results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2010 (ended August 28), reporting total revenues of $68.0 million and a gross profit of $2.8) million.

However, on a GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) basis, the company reported a net loss of $164.5 million for the quarter in question.

The Sunnyvale-based handset maker sold 823,000 smartphones during Q1 FY 2010 – probably mostly Palm Pres.

According to PreCentral, Palm will no longer make Windows Mobile smartphones and the company will concentrate solely on webOS.

“Due to importance of webOS to our overall strategy, we’ve made the decision to dedicate all future develoment resources to the evolution of webOS. Which means that going forward, our roadmap will include only Palm webOS-based devices”, said Palm’s CEO Jon Rubinstein.

So it looks like the Palm Treo Pro (pictured above) is the last Windows Mobile Palm handset. But that’s probably a good thing, as the new webOS is pretty cool, and both the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi (unavailable yet) are nice devices.
