. For business mobile phone users connectivity is the key to success. Access to your customers, connection with head quarters, the ability to get to your emails and Internet connectivity are essential. When thinking of business phones BlackBerry was always the top dog. Recently that position has been challenged by the iPhone and others. So what are the top 5 super efficient business phones.

BlackBerry Curve 8900 - Also know as the Javelin this is a classic BlackBerry smartphone. It is instantly recognisable as a BlackBerry with its full QWERTY keyboard and traditional trackball for navigation. It also has Wi-Fi, a 480×360 2.4″ screen, GPS and a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera. With the BlackBerry you can access your work’s BlackBerry Enterprise or Microsoft Exchange network easily or you can login to your personal Yahoo or Gmail. Also with the Curve’s push email system, emails appear on your handset with no prompting from you. The only downside of the Curve is that it is a 2G and not a 3G phone.

BlackBerry Storm 9500 - Departing for their traditional style of phone, the Storm is RIM’s first full touchscreen mobile phone. The storm has a 360×480 3.2″ touchscreen. It also has a built-in assisted GPS with BlackBerry Maps and a 3.2 megapixel camera. As the Storm moves away from the traditional BlackBerry style and doesn’t include a built-in keyboard the Storm displays a virtual keyboard on the screen, one that will be familiar to any BlackBerry user. Also by turning the phone on its side a full QWERTY keyboard is displayed to make writing your messages even easier. The Storm is a 3G phone and has support for HSDPA plus EDGE and GPRS. Like all BlackBerry phones, the Storm excels at all things email and you can get online in just about any way you can think of.

HTC Touch Pro 2 - The HTC Touch Pro is a 3G smartphone which runs Windows Mobile, a special version of Microsoft Windows for smartphones and PDAs. The screen on this phone is a 3.6″ TFT with a 480×800 resolution. The HTC Touch Pro 2 has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a tilting screen. It also comes with built-in GPS, WiFi and A2DP Bluetooth. The HTC takes talking on your phone seriously and includes a system called Straight Talk. It gives you easy access to conference calls, group or single emails or SMS messages. The Pro 2 also utilises two microphones for improved call quality and noise cancellation.

Samsung Tocco Lite S5230 - The Tocco Lite S5230 is a recent addition to Samsung’s Tocco line of smartphones and comes with many business features including an Office and PowerPoint document viewer, POP3/SMTP/IMAP4 email options and handwriting recognition technology for easy messaging. The S5230 has a QVGA (320×240) touchscreen, a 5.0 megapixel auto-focus camera and video calling. Unfortunately it doesn’t have Wifi which does limit your connectivity options but the phone is 3G.

Nokia N97 - The Nokia N97 is all about Internet and connectivity. It comes with a 3.5″, 360×640 pixel resolution, 16:9 touchscreen and a huge 32GB of flash storage memory. Since the N97 is about accessing the Internet (including your emails) it includes a fully featured browser and RSS reader and Flash (not something you see on many smartphones). For those on the road, N97 includes a GPS and the phone comes pre-loaded with Nokia Maps 2.0, nicely tweaked for touch usage. To access the Internet the N97 is a 3G phone and also supports WiFi along with the older networks like GPRS and EDGE.

The N97 is really a mobile computer and by gently nudging the screen a full QWERTY keyboard is revealed. This makes messaging and emailing much simpler.

I'm not sure if the Nokia N97 will qualify as a business phone. I have a Nokia E71 and I like it. I plan to try one of the HTCs running the new Windows Mobile 6.5 by the end of the year.
