General Mobile reveals its Android 2.0 COSMOS smartphone
4:05 AM Edited by Blony

General Mobile just sent us photos and specs of its second Android device, the COSMOS. It follows the DSTL1 Imaginary that the company released earlier this year and has a much better set of features.
For starters, it runs the Android 2.0 operating system, much like the Motorola Droid on Verizon Wireless. It has a 3.2-inch 320 x 480 HVGA capacitive touchscreen with an accelerometer, a 5 megapixel autofocus camera (sans flash), 256MB flash memory and 128MB SDRAM. Other features include a 1500mAh battery, FM radio, a digital compass, and a Marvell PXA935 processor under the hood.
The COSMOS looks much more attractive than the DSTL1 Imaginary; it has a more streamlined industrial design and a few attractive touches such as the etching on the battery cover.

HTC to debut a new touchscreen tablet at CES 2010?
3:55 AM Edited by Blony

Forget the iSlate, an unconfirmed rumor suggests that HTC may have multiple models of a new touchscreen tablet, a device that the Taiwanese handset manufacturer has been secretly working on for the last 18 months, ready for debut. One model of the rumored tablet will feature a Qualcomm processor (Snapdragon?), a touchscreen display (multi-touch?), new software from Adobe (Flash?) and will run Android. The tablet will reportedly be shown to a select group of HTC customers at a private showing next week during CES. HTC has been working closely with Google in the development of the tablet and is expected to roll out a second model of the touchscreen tablet with Google’s Chrome OS. Slap some wireless 3G connectivity onto these slates and HTC may win the prize as the manufacturer with the hottest portfolio in 2010.

Carphone gives free airline tickets to Palm Pre buyers
3:45 AM Edited by Blony

Apparently unhappy with how sales of the Palm Pre are going in the UK, Carphone Warehouse has decided to offer two free airline tickets to customers who will buy Palm’s first WebOS smartphone throughout January 2010.
For the moment, UK users can get the Pre only with an O2 contract – the handset is free if you’re willing to pay £45 or more per month.
According to Guardian.co.uk, O2 may have “mountains” of unsold Palm Pres.
Launched as an iPhone competitor, the Palm Pre is quite far from reaching the success of Apple’s smartphone – which may reach 1 million units sold until the end of the year, via Carphone UK only. The iPhone’s advantage, however, is that it was released earlier than the Pre in the UK, and it’s available both through O2 and Orange (while Vodafone will sell it starting January 14).
UK aside, the Palm Pre might soon debut on the US’s largest network (Verizon), as Palm Pre Plus, together with the Palm Pixi Plus. This will probably lead to some increased sales, but, if you ask me, Palm should quickly launch new smartphones if it wants to continue the moderate success it has with the Pre / Pixi tandem.
