The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is far from the first Android phone out of the gates, but Sony Ericsson’s taken its time brewing up a slick new UI for Google’s software. Jewel in the crown is Timescape, Sony Ericsson’s custom app for contacts and social network integration. We explain how to use it right here in our Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 tutorial.

Set up email
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 supports multiple email accounts. To set yours up, just choose either the Gmail or Email icon from the menu: if you use a major webmail you’ll just need to log in with email and password, but if not, you’ll need IMAP or POP3 server details to add to. Once you’re in, it’ll pull all your recent emails in so give it a few minutes to download them all.

Log in to Facebook and Twitter
Fire up the Timescape app from the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 homescreen. Along the bottom, you’ll see a row of different accounts. Navigate over to the Twitter and Facebook icons, and when prompted, log in. Not on either? Where have you been? No matter, you can register for both straight from the phone.

Master Timescape navigation
Scroll through the navigation row on the bottom of the Timescape app to see what it pulls in. As well as Facebook and Twitter, you’ll find email, texts, call logs, recently played music and viewed photos. You can remove any of these from the Settings menu.

Connect your contacts
Once you’ve got your contacts in your Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 phone book, it’s time to hook them up to your social networking contacts. To pair them up, open a contact in the Contacts app, choose Edit and then Link Contact. Pair them up with their Twitter and Facebook accounts here.

Update your status
You can publish your Facebook and Twitter status updates to friends and followers straight from your Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, as well as receive messages. Press the menu button on the bottom of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 in Timescape and pick Update Status. Type your message, then hit Continue, and you’ll be prompted to choose which network to send it out on: pick one or the other, or fling it off to both simultaneously.

Use the Infinity button
Whenever you receive an email, message or update, you’ll notice a loop symbol in the top corner of your handset. Give it a pop, and you’ll see all recent activity from that contact across all mediums. Emails, calls, it’s all there, and a great way to find what you’ve been talking about if it’s slipped your mind. It works in Mediascape too, and brings up top download picks and related YouTube viddies.

And you’re done! Now you can start using your Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to flit between conversations and contacts like a true social butterfly.
