Today Nokia announced that its N72 QWERTY smartphone is now available for purchase in select markets. The E72 is the follow-up of the popular Nokia E71 smartphone, and it comes equipped with some familiar features, like the QWERTY keyboard, and with some new features as well. One of the most obvious new features is the optical d-pad controller that takes the place of the older model's mechanical d-pad.

Other new features found on the E72 include an upgraded 5.0 megapixel autofocus camera, and the latest version of Nokia's Ovi Maps mapping system. The much praised Nokia Messaging suite replaces the standard S60 messaging app found on the older models, and it allows for easy configuration and access of multiple email accounts. Support for a few instant messaging clients has also been added to the device, including Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger service.
