Nokia has started shipping its anticipated N900 Maemo 5-powered touchscreen smartphone. The N900 is a full-featured smartphone powered by Nokia's new Linux-based Maemo 5 operating system.
Announced in August, the handset features a powerful ARM Cortex-A8 600MHz processor, 256MB of RAM, and 786MB of virtual memory. A 3.5-inch WVGA resistive touchscreen display should vividly display pictures taken with the N900's 5.0 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual-LED flash.
Users can listen to their music collection with 3.5mm headphones or Bluetooth stereo headphones. Traveling with a media library shouldn't be a challenge - the device carries 32GB of internal flash storage with support for microSD cards. Users can also tune into FM radio stations for free music most anywhere. The phone includes a 1320mAh battery for extended battery life.
The Nokia N900 is available unlocked for EUR 500 (US$748) excluding tax and subsidies. The device is initially available in North America, Europe, Russia, and the Middle-East.
