Samsung intros two 1GHz chips, 5MP SoC chip with 1080p HD video recording

During the Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum event held in Taipei, Samsung has announced the upcoming availability of S5PC110 and S5PV210 – two new 1GHz ARM CORTEX-A8 based application processors.

The Samsung S5PC110 chip is designed for “multimedia intensive smartphones” and other similar devices, while the Samsung S5PV210 is made for larger devices like nebtooks.

The S5PC110 and S5PV210 feature powerful built-in 3D graphics engines and built-in HDMI1.3 interfaces. They’re also capable of ensuring longer battery life for devices that use standard batteries.

Starting December 2009, customer samples of Samsung’s S5PC110 and S5PV210 1GHz chips should be available.

Samsung has also announced the S5K4EA, a new quarter-inch optical format, 5MP SoC (system-on-chip) image sensor.

Combining an image signal processor with a CMOS image sensor, the Samsung S5K4EA should be able to provide “digital still camera functionality to high-end mobile phones”. The chip features stuff like auto focus, Xenon flash, anti-shaking control and regionally adaptive dynamic range expansion. Also, it can process 1080p resolution images at 30fps, thus being perfect for any new mobile phone that wants to provide HD video capabilities.

Samsung S5K4EA should enter mass production in Q1 2010.
