Google Voice to limit number of blocked phone numbers

The Wall Street Journal reports that Google will limit the number of phone numbers it blocks with its Google Voice dialing service according to a letter issued to the Federal Communications Commission. The company says it is currently blocking less than 100 specific phone numbers after concerns that it was unlawfully doing so. Google blocks calls to certain numbers to save money on fees associated with rural carrier telephone exchanges.

The FCC began probing Google Voice earlier this month after requests from lawmakers and network competition, as we reported. The regulator has not issued a statement on the letter and it isn't known how the changes will affect the probe.
