Back in July, Samsung stated that it wants to sell more than 10 million units of its affordable Star S5230 touchscreen phone by the end of 2009.

Will it make it? Apparently, yes.

The South Korean company has just announced that it already sold 5 million phones of this type.

Also known as Samsung Tocco Lite, the Star S5230 is available since May this year. In the first month, about 700,000 units were sold. June saw Samsung shipping 900,000 of them, while July and August brought sales of 1.6 million and 1.8 million units, respectively.

So now Samsung expects the 10 million mark to be reached in November.

“We’re very pleased by this success. We see the demand for touch screen phones increasing and we will continue to offer consumers a diverse range of products, supported by unique marketing campaigns,” declared Young-hee Lee, Vice President of Marketing, Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics.

Featuring a WQVGA touchscreen, 2.5G-only connectivity, DNSe, 3MP camera, and a 11.9mm thin case, the Samsung Star S5230 is currently available in many markets around the world, including Western Europe, CIS, Asia, East-Central Africa, and Central America.
