Applications should be user friendly and add value both for wireless operators to end users in areas such as SIM cards multimedia, interactive services, financial, multimedia convergence applications for mobile and television advertising, applications for administration and security in identity, or social services through networks, among others.
Five of the finalists were developed by universities, one from Spain, and the three remaining businesses:
iCanSee of Rhodes University (South Africa) is an application developed especially for the visually disabled community, which provides alternatives for the four most common communication tools in the mobile (SMS, MMS, email and phone book).
Konnexsim of Scientific Engineering Services Ltd (Greece) is a middleware communications connectivity between overhead power and SIM cards.
Web gate of Moscow State University (Russia) is a toolbox that implements a bridge between the Internet and mobile technology SCWS (Smart Card Web Server).
BioXpress of Precise Biometrics AB (Sweden) presents solutions in a scenario of air travel to facilitate reservations and purchasing tickets remotely via the Internet.
TaggyNet of Polytech Marseille (France), is an application that provides new ways of exchanging information and contacts for members of communities such as Facebook, MySpace and hi5.
Single SIM Authenticator, University Carlos III of Madrid (Spain), lets you enter the credentials of the user associated with web services, stored on the SIM card to automatically provide them in a safe manner.
SIMail of FH Hagenberg (Austria) is a standalone application to manage business tasks (or post calendars of events) that runs directly on the SIM card.
APiCARDIO of APIILINX (France) allows the monitoring of cardiac patients at all times and all places, according to physiological parameters required for each case for which data are transferred to a SIM card.
These finalists will present their solutions at the Mobile World Congress MWC 2009 and the three winners will receive cash prizes depending on the category of 15,000 euros Gold, Silver and Bronze from 12,000 euros to 10,000 euros.
